Trainee Service & Support Engineer

An opportunity has become available for a Trainee Service & Support Engineer to work within the award-winning OAL Connected team at OAL. We’re looking for a team player with excellent communication skills to support our systems in the field, including high-profile clients with 24/7 business-critical infrastructure. You will enjoy learning and getting trained on industrial technology, addressing and anticipating the needs of our customers, working closely with them to resolve any queries or challenges.

Role responsibilities and accountability (when fully trained)

  • Provide first and second line response and support for users of OAL Connected systems, diagnosing problems over the phone, via email or face-to-face.

  • Log, track and complete support/maintenance requests raised through the customer service system, escalating within the Support team where required.

  • Offer out-of-hours customer support on a rota basis

  • Identify opportunities for cross-sell and up-sell of OAL Connected products, supporting sales activities with processing of spares, quoting etc.

  • Work closely with software team to raise issues and feedback from customers and test new releases.

Desired skills

  • A can-do attitude and a desire to learn, grow and progress.

  • Minimum C&G / NVQ Level 3 in engineering – electrical biased preferred or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of PLC programming – (Micrologix).

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with an understanding of how to deliver outstanding customer service to our customers.

  • IT skills including Microsoft Office and an understanding of computer operating systems.

  • Full UK driving licence & passport (if overseas travel required).

  • Able to travel and stay away at short notice to support emergency customers.

  • Available to cover ‘on call’ requirements on a rota basis including night and weekend cover.

Salary: £24k-£28k DOE + on call allowance

Location: Peterborough

Vacancy type: Full-time, permanent

Hours: Mon-Fri, 8.30am-5pm with some out of hours support on a rota basis
